Recommended for welding extremely dirty or grease soaked castings, where other electrodes fail. Widely used on reclamation of motor housings, machine bases, levers and cams, farm machinery castings where machinability is not necessary. Recommended for a first pass for a good bond on dirty cast iron. May be finished with any All-State machinable electrode for cast iron.
Procedure
Entire weld area should be clean. Cracks or edges may be grooved or beveled with All-State Chamfer Rod. Preheating to approximately 400° - 500°F.(204° - 260°C.),helps reduce stresses on complicated castings. Use lowest possible amperage that will give good fusion and "skip weld" whenever possible to distribute heat more evenly. Maintain an arc length of about 1/8" (3.2mm).Not recommended for DC straight polarity. Use AC or DC reverse polarity only.
