Procedure

Clean base metal. Nickel and nickel alloys will become brittle when welded if any sulphur or lead is absorbed into the weld deposit. These impurities are commonly found in lubricants, dirts, grease, oil, paint and other processing residues. Preheating is not recommended unless the metal drops below 32ºF (0ºC). A short arc must be maintained. Stringer beads or weave beads not more than three times the diameter of the electrode will minimize heat input. Remove all slag and clean thoroughly after each pass.
